Bleacher Report – Vikings

Vikings rule out four defensive starters for Thursday in Arizona

By Andrew Krammer

Thursday night is getting long before it even started for the Vikings.

They ruled out four defensive starters on Wednesday in linebacker Anthony Barr (hand/groin), safety Harrison Smith (knee/hamstring), nose tackle Linval Joseph (foot) and safety Andrew Sendejo, who will all not play against the Cardinals. Linebacker Brandon Watts (rib) has also been ruled out.

Shaun Prater and Anthony Harris, added to the active roster on Tuesday, are the only healthy safeties available for the Vikings. Prater, 26, has spent three training camps with coach Mike Zimmer, and was initially released in final cuts in September. Harris, 24, was an undrafted free agent signing this spring out of Virginia. He spent the first 12 weeks on the practice squad.

Safety Robert Blanton (knee) is questionable.

The Vikings have prepared rookie linebacker Edmond Robinson for his first career start in Barr’s stead. Sharrif Floyd filled in for Joseph last week at nose, with Tom Johnson starting at defensive tackle. And the safety situation is up between Blanton, Harris, Prater and possibly cornerback Terence Newman, the team’s emergency safety.
