Joseph, Barr and Smith held out of practice again Tuesday

By Andrew Krammer

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Vikings are pushing forward without three key defenders in the lineup during practices in this short week.

Nose tackle Linval Joseph, safety Harrison Smith and linebacker Anthony Barr were held out of practice again on Tuesday, and would appear to be long-shots to play in roughly 48 hours on Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals. The Vikings will announce their game-day designations on Wednesday.

Joseph is dealing with a foot injury suffered in the Nov. 29 win at Atlanta, and hasn’t practiced since. Barr re-aggravated a groin injury in the second series of Sunday’s loss, and left the game. Smith added a hamstring ailment to an already banged-up knee, and he also left in the first quarter on Sunday.

Sharrif Floyd is likely in line to start at nose tackle again, while rookie linebacker Edmond Robinson is preparing to make his first career start in Barr’s stead. The Vikings’ safety situation is less clear, with Andrew Sendejo (knee) returning to practice on a limited basis on Tuesday. Anthony Harris was promoted from the practice squad and the Vikings re-signed Shaun Prater.

They’ll be without Antone Exum Jr., who was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with rib and shoulder injuries. They could also be without safety Robert Blanton, who has been held out this week with a knee injury.

Linebacker Brandon Watts (rib) has also not practiced this week.

Defensive end Scott Crichton (ankle) was limited again on Tuesday.
