The Vikings cut guard Charlie Johnson on Friday.
Johnson, 30, started 61 games in four seasons in Minnesota, the last three years at left guard. He contributed to pass protection problems in a down season for a Vikings’ offense that allowed 51 sacks, the fifth-most in the NFL. The team has talked highly of this year’s offensive line depth in the draft and vowed to improve consistency in front of quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
The move saves the Vikings Johnson’s entire $2.5 million salary for 2015, per OverTheCap.com.
