Vikings Agree To Terms With Cassel, Griffin

By Jeff Wald

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Vikings announced Tuesday they’ve agreed to terms with quarterback Matt Cassel and defensive end Everson Griffen.

The moves were announced Tuesday morning as the NFL embarks on free agency in the afternoon. The Vikings also announced they re-signed Larry Dean, who plays primarily on special teams.

Cassel signed with the Vikings as a free agent before last season to be the back-up quarterback to Christian Ponder. Cassel appeared in nine games for Minnesota, including all five victories. He made six starts and threw for more than 1,800 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Griffen was a fourth-round selection in the 2010 NFL Draft and has appeared in 59 games with one start. He has 17.5 sacks for his career, including eight in the 2012 season. Griffen finished last season with 5.5 sacks, including 2.5 in the last two regular season games.
