Thousands Of Vikings Fans Have ‘Last Call’ At Metrodome

By sdswanson

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – On Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings will take the field at the Metrodome for the last time.

In preparation for the last game at Mall of America Field, season-ticket holders got a special chance to go behind the scenes and say goodbye to the stadium Saturday night.

“I’ve been a Vikings fan since I was a kid so it was fun,” said Jay Siebel. “It’s going to be bittersweet tomorrow.”

Six-thousand fans participated in the “Last Season, Last Call” event. They got the chance to be on the field, get their picture taken with the cheerleaders and tour the locker rooms.

“I’ve never done it before. This will be the first and last time, so it’s cool to tell my friends about it and have that experience to share,” said fan Colin Farley.

As fans toured the dome, they reflected on 32 years of history.

“It’s part of our heritage,” Stephen Farley said. “I love it. I love the noise, I love the scream and yelling, it’s a great place to come.”

Even though the Vikings never won a Super Bowl title at the dome, it’s made other history. It’s the only facility to host a World Series, Major League All-Star game and NCAA Division I basketball finals.

The new Vikings stadium will be finished in 2016, and fans hope the new venue won’t change the spirit.

Fans will have an opportunity to keep a piece of dome history by buying the seats. A random seat costs $60, and a requested seat number will cost $80.
