MINNEAPOLIS — The pregame fireworks and those provided by Minnesota Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson were about the only farewells to the Metrodome in an otherwise meaningless bout between the purple and the Detroit Lions.
Defensive end Jared Allen lined up as a tight end near the goal line and just missed a would-be touchdown catch on one of a few errant throws by quarterback Matt Cassel. Cassel threw his lone interception a few plays later as third-string running back Matt Asiata made the touchdown-saving tackle nearly 50 yards later.
