Extra Security Set For Vikes’ Final Metrodome Game

By Eric Henderson

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It’s officially two days until the end of an era, as the Vikings and their fans get set for the team’s final game at the Metrodome, and the last day the public will be allowed inside.

But things will be different at this game for another reason. For those lucky enough to score a ticket Sunday, you will be being watched very closely, and there will be a number of extra security officers on site than normal.

The previous stadium before the Metrodome — the Met Stadium — was the site of an unruly scene in 1981 following the final game there. That’s why the Vikings have extra security.

In order to stop people from rushing the field inside the Dome on Sunday, they’ve got a plan.

“We’ll have a post-game ceremony with some former Vikings Adrian Peterson, Bud Grant speaking to crowd and highlight video,” said Jeff Anderson with the Vikings. “We’re giving out commemorative items to our fans. So we don’t expect issues, but we’ll have the field surrounded with security staff.”

There will be a zero tolerance for taking any item, even so much as a toilet paper holder.
