MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Stadium construction planners are settling on the final budget for the Minnesota Vikings new home.
The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, the team and main contractor were set to lock in the budget Friday. They have been trying to figure out how to stretch the dollars and may have to leave some amenities on the cutting room floor.
In all, the stadium is supposed to come in at just under $1 billion. But not all of that goes toward materials and labor. Those costs covered by the guaranteed maximum price agreement being finalized. Overruns would fall to the contractor.
A ceremonial groundbreaking has been set for Dec. 3, but major construction won’t commence until after the football season. The Metrodome will be demolished to make way for the new stadium.
