Bleacher Report – Vikings

According To Ponder, “the Dynamics Of This Organization Have Changed.”

Minneapolis, MN – For the first time since returning from London after missing the game with a fractured rib, Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder met with the local media and commented on his current standing with the Minnesota Vikings.

Given the team’s recent activities on the waiver wire [acquiring QB Josh Freeman], Ponder’s status as starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings and his future with the team is understandably in question.

“My mind and preparation is to be the starter,” Ponder stated. “Whatever [Coach Frazier] chooses, we’re going to go with because it’s best for the team.”

For most of the past three seasons, Ponder has served as the Vikings starting quarterback embarking on a roller coaster journey that has led to his position on the depth chart being questioned.

Thought to now be the number two quarterback for the Vikings, Ponder continues fighting to set himself up for his future, whether it be in Minnesota or somewhere else.

“I hope to still be here,” Ponder explained. “But it’s the front office’s call. You never know, as we’ve seen the past week, what’s going to happen.”

With the NFL trade deadline approaching at the end of the month (October 29th), the potential for Ponder to be traded to another team remains. It’s not clear what sort of market there is, but a team like the Jacksonville Jaguars may be looking at making a change at quarterback. If Ponder is no longer in the long-term plans for the Vikings, they may want to see what they can get for him on the market.

“A trade would be difficult to deal with,” Ponder said Thursday. “Some of the dynamics of this organization have changed, obviously with bringing in Josh [Freeman].”

Keeping his head held high, Ponder admitted that he knew what the plan was going to be for Sunday but would not divulge the specifics surrounding that information. Still, all signs continue to point towards Cassel on Sunday and Freeman in the future for the Vikings

“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t disappointing and a little bit frustrating,” Ponder admitted. “I’m not going to get too discouraged about it. I’m a man of faith and I know God’s in control. I don’t know what’s going to happen and I don’t know what the next few weeks or months hold.”
