Mankato, MN – The Minnesota Vikings have been pretty fortunate during this year’s Training Camp having avoided any of the big injuries that have littered the NFL news wire over the past two weeks. So far it’s been nothing more than a barrage of muscle tweaks, ankle sprains and stingers that have temporarily sidelined Minnesota players. Sunday morning though, head coach Leslie Frazier announced that the Vikings are sending their first player out of camp for an MRI this afternoon. That player, rookie defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd.

Floyd went down in Friday night’s loss against the Houston Texans after having a Texans blocker roll up on his left knee. With head trainer Eric Sugarman by his side, Floyd walked off the field Friday under his own power. After the game, there was little room for concern as both Frazier and Floyd himself shrugged off the injury saying that if it were a real game he could have played through it. But again, Sunday morning was met with a different tone.

“Sharrif was a little bit sorer than we thought he would be [today],” Frazier said after this morning’s walkthrough. “Not overly concerned by everything that I’ve been told. He’s just sore so we just want to error on the side of caution…the fact that he was sorer than he was yesterday makes us decide that we need to make sure that there’s nothing else going on.”

Floyd, who was drafted 23rd overall by the Vikings in the 2013 draft, played a considerable amount of the first half and was having a good showing before the injury pushed him to the sidelines. Sharrif was present at this morning’s walkthrough sporting a light wrap on that left knee but looked decent jogging up the sidelines towards the defensive side of the field.

Floyd is not expected to take part in this afternoon’s practice. More updates to come as the day goes along.
