Bleacher Report – Vikings

Notebook: MRI on Sharrif Floyd's knee shows

MANKATO, Minn. — Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd said after Sunday’s practice that an MRI on his left knee showed there was “nothing wrong,” adding, “it went well.”

Vikings coach Leslie Frazieir said earlier Sunday that Floyd would have the MRI after the first-round pick was cut from behind on a block in Friday’s 27-13 preseason loss to the Houston Texans.

Frazier had said Floyd would be fine after the loss, but on Sunday morning the rookie was a little sorer than he had been previously. Floyd did not practice Sunday and said he will return when he’s cleared by the medical staff.

“We’re not overly concerned, by everything I’ve been told, he was just sore,” Frazier said. “We want to err on the side of caution. He fell on the knee, was a little sore this morning. The fact that he was sorer than he was yesterday, we just decided we need to make sure there’s nothing else going on.”

Floyd also did not participate in the Sunday morning walkthrough as he stood on the sidelines with a white sleeve over the injured leg.

“Other than the fact he was sore, there’s nothing else overly concerning,” Frazier said.

Lacey out 2-4 weeks

Cornerback Jacob Lacey did not suit up for Friday’s preseason opener and Frazier said the team will conduct arthroscopic surgery on his knee.

Frazier said Lacey would be out 2-4 weeks and that he’s not certain of the damage — whether it’s ligament, cartilage, etc.

This marks another setback for Lacey, who has been designated as the team’s backup nickel corner. Lacey sat out a week of mandatory minicamps in late June after dislocating his right thumb.

The Detroit Lions placed Lacey on injured reserve last season after he dislocated his left knee in a Week 15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Who’s in?

Cornerback Xavier Rhodes, who sat out Friday’s game with a hamstring injury, will take part in Sunday’s practice after missing last week.

Linebacker Desmond Bishop (groin) will practice after missing most of last week and Friday’s game due to injury.

Cornerback A.J. Jefferson (ankle) will practice.

Who’s out?

Defensive tackle Christian Ballard recorded a sack in Friday’s game, but was pulled from the game and will sit out Sunday’s practice with a groin injury.

Safety Brandan Bishop had four tackles in Friday’s loss. Frazier said Bishop may sit out Sunday’s practice with an illness.
