HOFer Cris Carter’s Interview W/Dan Barreiro

By: Aj Mansour |

Minneapolis, MN – As former Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter prepares to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Famer tomorrow evening, let’s take a look back at an interview that KFAN’s Dan Barreiro did with Carter after learning that he would be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Carter surely had his ups and downs throughout his HOF career. Below are excerpts from that hard hitting conversation. CLICK HERE to listen to the entire interview with HOFer Cris Carter.

“Even though I wasn’t using cocaine at the time, I really didn’t have the skill set in my mind and how I could get my body off the chemicals and to change the thinking behind someone who was a drug addict. Even thought I wasn’t using, it’s what they call a ‘dry drunk’. You don’t have the systems in place so you’re just basically not using but you still have a lot of the characteristics of someone who’s still abusing the drug. No one in Philadelphia told me I couldn’t drink. They told me I couldn’t use cocaine of course and we couldn’t’ smoke marijuana of course, but they told me I could drink. The first time that I was ever challenged not to drink was in Minnesota and they told me that that was going to be the key ingredient to everything.”

“One of my pet peeves when I was playing was people complimenting me on being a receiver,” Carter said. “I felt as if, I was like a craftsman and the product wasn’t finished yet. I thought that I could get better. I thought their were certain things in football that were starting to come to me with maturity, my body had reached a certain level where athletically I could do things never before. But I always felt like, until late, late in my career, that I wasn’t a finished product.”

I encourage you to take a listen to the entirety of Carter’s interview in the player above.
