Bleacher Report – Vikings

Unfinished business: Vikings still need to sign three first-round pick

The Minnesota Vikings’ trio of first-round draft picks remained unsigned Wednesday as the team prepared to report to training camp on Thursday afternoon in Mankato.

The list includes defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd of Florida, cornerback Xavier Rhodes of Florida State and wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson of Tennessee.

Floyd was selected 23rd overall, with Rhodes going two picks later and Patterson being taken 29th after the Vikings worked a trade with New England to get back into the opening round.

There was a time this would have been a potential issue for the Vikings, but with the rookie wage scale entering its third year, there isn’t room for the agents of first-round picks to look for big paydays.

The two players picked around Floyd — cornerback Desmond Trufant and defensive end Bjoern Werner — agreed to terms with Atlanta and Indianapolis, respectively, on Wednesday.

Trufant’s agent, Doug Hendrickson, told the Associated Press that the four-year contract was for $8.16 million with $4.3 million guaranteed. Trufant became the first player to report to the Falcons’ camp on Wednesday.

As for Werner’s contract, the Associated Press reported he received a four-year deal worth $7.896 million that includes $6.4 million in guarantees. Werner will receive a $4.12 million signing bonus.

The Vikings, who signed 2012 first-round pick Matt Kalil on the day they reported to camp last year, will conduct their first practice on Friday.
